Just a small post about a throw away comment that made me look at my disease differently.
It was a typical session in Tae Kwon Do and we were all on the floor doing our stretches, trying to reach our toes whilst not bending our knees, that sort of thing. Never been my forte that, I figure I need medium ham strings but got given extra small 🙂
Anyway, during one of my attempts to mould my body into the perfect fighting machine, I stretched and made the noise that grown up’s usually make when exerting themselves mixed with a few ouch’s. And an 8yo next to me (Reece) said ‘what’s up’ and I said ‘it hurts because I have a joint disease’ and he replied ‘no you don’t’.
At first I was a little stunned, kids tell it like it is right, and were he an adult I would have been offended, but it made me think about how he see’s me. I may feel like 40 going on 80 sometimes, but he see’s me as a perfectly able adult, the same as any other in the room.
To me it was a compliment on how I’m doing 🙂
